Five years of making technology work better for the business.
RefactorQ is an engineering-led technology consultancy, founded in 2021. We help organizations transform, build and operate technology better — and this is how we got here.
We didn't set out to build another IT services company.
RefactorQ started with a pattern we kept seeing across technology organizations. Businesses were investing more in digital programs, products, cloud, tools and engineering teams — yet the business outcomes did not always follow.
Applications still struggled under load — often at exactly the wrong time.
Cloud bills grew, and nobody could clearly connect the increase to business value.
Transformation programs added new systems without removing the old friction.
Teams adopted more tools, but engineers still spent their time working around the system.
“What business outcome are we trying to create — and how can technology, AI and engineering help us achieve it better?”
That question became the foundation of RefactorQ.
From one question to five connected practices.
- 2021
RefactorQ is founded
Started as a self-funded, engineering-led consultancy — senior engineers staying hands-on, closing the gap between advice and working software.
- 2022
Dublin and Pune, one team
Client leadership and strategy in Dublin, deep engineering in Pune — operating as a single team rather than an offshore hand-off.

The ALIGN Framework
Codified how we run engagements — Assess, Lay blueprint, Implement, Govern, Nurture — so every modernization follows the same disciplined path.

AI-led delivery and our first products
Brought governed AI into the delivery lifecycle and turned recurring client problems into products, starting with Cloud Guardian and SmartSpend.

A broader practice
Extended into security modernization, platform reliability and aviation technology consulting.

Five years — and a sharper focus
Five years on, the practice is organized around five connected offerings, all serving the question we started with.
Help organizations get more business value from transformation by making the technology and engineering behind it better.
What we believe
4 Principles- 01
Engineering should connect to economics.
Architecture, performance, cloud spend and developer productivity all affect how the business performs.
- 02
AI should create leverage.
AI is most valuable when it improves how people build and operate systems — not when it is added for novelty.
- 03
Specialization builds trust.
We would rather be deeply useful in connected engineering disciplines than claim to do everything.
- 04
The work should survive the engagement.
Good consulting leaves behind better systems, practices, automation and capability inside the client team.
An engineering-led consultancy with five connected offerings.
Digital Transformation sets the change agenda and AI-led Development accelerates delivery. Performance, FinOps and Platform Engineering make sure what we build is fast, economical and easy to run.

In the founder’s words
“The motivation behind RefactorQ was never simply to start a company. It was to build a team that can turn transformation into working technology.”
I kept coming back to the same question: why do organizations keep investing in technology, yet still struggle to turn that investment into better outcomes?
Those problems are never purely technical. Performance affects customer experience. Cloud architecture affects profitability. Developer experience affects how quickly a business can change. The engineering decision and the business decision are often the same decision, viewed from different sides.
The next five years.
Technology consulting will increasingly be shaped by digital transformation, AI and strong engineering working together. We are building RefactorQ for that future — helping clients modernize, use AI across software delivery in practical ways, and back that change with the performance, cloud economics and platforms needed to run it well.
